If you are passionate about student success, education, and food security this event is for you! This program aims to ensure that empty bellies don't diminish students' academic success.
At Student Farmers Markets (SFMs), students will receive free, fresh produce at school to take home and share with their families.
Why Should You Sign Up?
According to the California Department of Food and Agriculture, California grows over a third of our country's vegetables and nearly three-quarters of our fruits and nuts! Even so, in agricultural towns like Esparto, fresh produce can be difficult to access. Many students from low income families rely on school meals, which rarely contain the farm fresh fruits and vegetables that other families around Yolo County enjoy on a daily basis. You can help introduce students to high quality, seasonal produce that was grown in their community, building the framework of healthy choices that will last a lifetime.Dani Kroll, Volunteer Site Lead and Esparto resident, says: Your help at the Student Farmers Market "would be putting the food we grow (and likely the food [you] eat when [you] buy from the Davis farmers market) back into our homes... Bringing produce back into these homes will increase generational quality of life."This opportunity is just a 20 minute drive from Woodland or Winters, 30 minute drive from Davis through beautiful farmland. Enjoy the scenic views of Yolo County!
