Public Community Food Distributions

Who We Are

Public Community Food Distributions are a direct food distribution program offering healthy produce, dairy, meat, bread, and non-perishable grocery items to individuals and families at 20+ locations in Yolo County. Every month, Yolo Food Bank partners with civic and private organizations to serve community members in need of groceries. No applications or proof of income, residence, immigration status, or other personal information required to access food assistance. Food distributions are available in either a drive-through format (requiring participants to remain in their vehicles), or a walk-up format.

What We Do

Help distribute fresh groceries to our community members! Most of our food distributions operate as a drive-thru where participants receive food without having to leave their cars. Here's where you come in:

  • Sorting, Packing, and Clean-up: Volunteers will help unload boxes of food from pallets and sort them into categories of produce, dairy, meat, etc. Once the food has been sorted and inspected, volunteers will pack a variety of these items into bags and load client's vehicles. Once the last client has gone through the line, volunteers will also help with the clean up and break down of the event.

Lend a hand or two and help distribute fresh groceries to our community members! Upon arrival, participants will proceed in a line through a series of tables, or “stations” that have been set up by volunteers.

  • Sorting, Packing, and Clean-up: Volunteers working in the food stations will help unload boxes of food from pallets and sort them into categories of produce, dairy, meat, etc. Once the food has been sorted and inspected, volunteers will pack a variety of these items into bags. Volunteers will also help replenish the pre-packed items on the tables with any overstock available on remaining pallets of food. Once the last client has been served, volunteers will also help with the clean up of the distribution area.
