  2. Review our Onboarding Page for more info about our programs.

Where and how will I receive training for the event I registered for?

Carefully review the information included in the opportunity listing you are interested in before attending the event. A YFB staff member or volunteer Site Lead will provide further instructions and training the day of the event.

What is the process to begin court ordered community service hours?

Individuals who receive a court order to perform community service will be accepted as long as they meet Yolo Food Bank's requirements and follow the onboarding process outlined in the court ordered policy. To see if you quality, visit this page here.

What is a Site Lead?

Site Leads are volunteers who step into a leadership role at YFB. Site Leads will give direction, instructions, and guidance to new volunteers at events. They manage events and delegate volunteers to different roles in order to finish the job at hand.

What should I do if I can’t make it to an event that I registered for?

Click on THIS LINK for a walkthrough of the steps to unregister for an event.

Alternatively, you can contact a Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@yolofoodbank.org or 530-668-0690. Please note, failure to notify YFB of your cancellation will result in being marked as a no-show. To review the no-show policy, refer to our Volunteer Handbook here.

What if there are no open slots on the day I want to volunteer?

Please do not join an event without registering first. Each event has a set capacity that is based on the amount of work available.  If no open slots are available, please check back soon and join us at another event. Each volunteer who wishes to participate must have a volunteer account and meet the qualifications.

How do I log my volunteer hours?

We’re excited to announce CauseConnect app, a new and easy way to manage your volunteer experience from the palm of your hand! To learn more, visit the Onboarding page here

How can I get a confirmation letter or online verification of my community service hours?

To request an official confirmation letter or online service verification, please contact a Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@yolofoodbank.org with your full name and contact information.

If you need a signature on an existing document, you can refer to the staff or site lead at your volunteer event.

Click THIS LINK for a walkthrough to update, review, and save your Volunteer Resume.

**Court-ordered community service confirmations can only be signed by a Volunteer Coordinator**

Age Requirements for Youth Volunteers

Volunteers who are 12-17 years old will be required to submit a Youth Volunteer Waiver when they create an account. Youth Volunteer Waivers require a signature indicating permission to participate from a parent or guardian. Additional requirements are as follows:

Ages 12 - 15:

Youth volunteers between the ages of 12 - 15 must always be accompanied by an adult and/or be part of an organized group with adequate adult supervision (5:1). Adults accompanying minors must be signed up for the volunteer events and participate alongside their youth volunteers.

Ages 16-17:

Volunteers ages 16-17 who wish to volunteer without being accompanied by an adult must receive parental permission before participating alone via the Youth Volunteer Waiver.

What should I do if I need accommodations to participate?

YFB is working hard to make all events accessible for everyone! While many of our events are fully accessible, there are some events held in spaces that are unpaved and some that require specific physical abilities. Please carefully review the event description and contact a Volunteer Coordinator to start a conversation about possible volunteer opportunities that will be suitable, safe, and fun.

What COVID-19 safety measures are being taken?

Volunteers who are currently testing positive for COVID-19 cannot participate in our volunteer events. Any volunteer who has been exposed to COVID-19 or exhibits symptoms of COVID-19, but is not testing positive, must wear a mask in order to participate. Masks are optional for all other volunteers. Volunteers must wash/sanitize hands upon arrival at the volunteer event and when changing gloves.
